Rafael A. Alcantara-Lansberg
Rafael started working in the financial markets in mid-1997 on an EM bond arbitrage trading desk. He heads the firm’s global macro research efforts and sets the risk guidelines for the portfolio management team. His areas of interest include portfolio theory, asset allocation and the psychology of financial markets. For Rafael, Harbor Ithaka is about doing Wealth Management as it should be done: Excellent risk-adjusted returns should be consistent with an ethical practice; in fact they might depend upon it: “no excuses, no good enoughs.”
Erik L. Halvorssen
Over two decades of successful leadership roles in prominent wealth management organizations in the United States, Latin America and Europe, have informed Erik’s passion for providing clarity and confidence and empowering the results of his clients. Erik is regularly invited as speaker and panelist in wealth management and family office conferences internationally and has written articles on wealth management and family office issues that have been published on several renowned publications in the US and Europe. A native of Venezuela, Erik studied economics at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas and lives with his family in Miami since 2001.
Julio C. Canas
Julio is in charge of the firm’s proper development. With well over a decade taking on various positions in finance, from that of Portfolio Manager to Professor of Financial Mathematics, he has found his passion in entrepreneurship and specifically in helping develop businesses committed to providing value to all the firms’ stakeholders. After years of coaching entrepreneurs while working in finance, the project of Harbor Ithaka stood as a perfect fit. His areas of interest include behavioral finance, goals-based wealth management, and impact investing.
Miguel Garcia Cardona
Miguel is the firms’ credit analyst and really has a knack for understanding corporate balance sheets and valuation fundamentals. He co-chairs the investment committee and is in charge of supervising the firm’s investment process discipline. He also collaborates with the macro team seeking to validate trends against balance sheet dynamics.
Carlos A. Machado
Carlos Machado has been working around fixed income and currency trading desks since 2004, and has been working with the current portfolio management team since 2008. He is currently in charge of portfolio risk analytics and monitoring. Carlos is the guy making sure portfolio strategies are working as they should.
Eduardo is heading the firm’s macro research methodology project and collaborates on the firms “i-harbor” project: a venture that the firm intends to grow into an advisor tool for global financial market research. Defacto curator of the office’s library
Javier A. Loreto
Javier Loreto has been in the financial industry since 2007. Before joining Harbor Ithaka WM, Javier worked at Citigroup Private Wealth Management and Deutsche Bank Private Bank. As our senior portfolio manager, he is the brain source to many of the firm´s investment strategies making sure they are executed correctly and aligned with the company´s investment philosophy. He sits on the investment committee and collaborates on many of the firm’s fixed income research initiatives.
